Whatchamacallits

I used to watch Top Chef when it first came out. And I don't mean occasionally. I was like a rabid gopher when someone got within 2 feet of the remote and it was on.

And, yes, I know what rabid gophers look like. My mom and I just caught one the other day on her patio!

Anyway-one episode involved the chefs making breakfast for a whole bunch of surfers on the beach with only fire as a heat source. A girl on the show made some sort of waffle, egg, syrup thing. She says they used to eat something similar in "her country" somewhere in South or Central America I think.

So instead of making scrambled eggs the other day, I got out the toaster and the griddle and came up with this. I have yet to name it. We actually call it the "no-name thing", but it is seriously good and I encourage everyone out there to try it.

I actually eat mine slightly different than the way I have it listed on here because I have an unnatural phobia of cheese and eggs touching or mixed, or anything remotely close to each other. So I omit the cheese. But it is still amazing. The photos are horrible. It was bad lighting day and I only have beige plates. As unappetizing as they look, they are 180 degrees the opposite in taste. YUM YUM.

And you can say you ate something sorta "South American". :)

No-Name Thing

1 frozen buttermilk waffle
2 slices of sandwich ham (we use Kirkland ham from Costco)
1 egg
1 3"x3" slice of Cheddar cheese
salt
pepper
maple syrup

Preheat your griddle to 350 degrees. Spray surface with non-stick spray.
Pop the waffle in the toaster.
Lay the ham on the griddle on one end and crack the egg onto the other end.
When the ham starts to shrivel up a bit, flip it. It is already cooked, you are just warming and crisping.
When the egg white has cooked on the bottom, flip the egg carefully.
Cook egg until the whites bounce back when you touch them with the spatula.
Slice your cheddar.
The toaster should pop. Place the waffle on the plate.
Your ham should be done. Fold the slices and stack on top of the waffle.
Add your cheese to the pile.
Top with egg.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with maple syrup.
Comment on Lisa's blog about how awesome it is.
